This week's round-up 本週摘要

This week what was said about Greece in future:
British economist Sir Nicholas Stern warned yesterday during a visit to Athens that the problem of climate change is more dangerous than the current economic crisis.
Sir Nicholas warned that Southeastern Europe risks turning into a desert in the next 100-150 years unless climate change is reversed. 英國著名經濟學者尼克拉斯警告說,除非氣候逆轉變化否則在未來100-150年,東南歐恐怕變成沙漠

Every May my family takes a trip to the village where my father-in-law is originally from, and we pass by one of the lakes which supplies water to the greater Athens area, the water level seems to drop every year, this coupled with the problem of continuous forest fires in the summer throughout the country, I am not surprised with the environment warning made by the British economist.

And this past Monday who came to visit Greece:
Ο πρωθυπουργός Κώστας Καραμανλής, υποδέχεται στο αεροδρόμιο Ελ. Βενιζέλος τον Κινέζο πρόεδρο Χου Ζιντάο, στο πλαίσιο της τριήμερης επίσημης επίσκεψής του στην Αθήνα.
Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis welcomed Chinese President Hu Zintao at Eleftherios Venizelos airport, Hu was on a three-day official visit to Athens.
Learning some Greek words:
πρωθυπουργός (pro-thi-pou-er-GOS) Prime Minister
υποδέχεται (i-po-DE-he-te) host, welcome (3rd person, he)
αεροδρόμιο (a-e-ro-DRO-mi-o) airport
Κινέζος πρόεδρος (ki-NE-zos PRO-e-dros) Chinese president
πλαίσιο (PLEH-si-o) framework
επίσημης (e-PI-si-mis) official
επίσκεψης (e-PI-ske-psis) visit

There are about 6 articles in the newspaper written about Greece and China's new closer ties, which may make some businessmen pocket-happy and other consumers worry, I will try to translate and summarize these articles on later posts. China sees Greece as their gateway to Europe, China’s Cosco Pacific signed with the Greek government a deal to take over the cargo management services of state-controlled Piraeus port for 35 years.
